Wool Mattress Toppers
Our comfortable, chemical free, breathable and durable wool mattress pads will soften your mattress and will help you keep comfortable body temperature. Wool filled mattress toppers help sleepers stay warmer in winter and cooler in summer.
Many customers use memory foam mattresses that retain body heat. That causes sleepers to overheat, sweat and experience discomfort that disrupts their sleep. This issue can be resolved by adding a wool mattress topper. Wool is porous and allows air to flow through letting you sleep cooler.
Wool absorbs moisture from the atmosphere of greater humidity and releases it to the drier environment keeping dry air next to your skin. Wool can absorb up to 30% of its weight. As a result, wool mattress toppers provide relief for hot sleepers. Use of these toppers is also a cost effective way to lengthen the life of your mattress and keep it odor free.
Wool mattress toppers are naturally fire resistant and are therefore chemical free. Conversely, synthetic mattresses & toppers are made of very flammable fibers and the manufacturers of these products are required by law to add flame retardants.
These mattress pads are filled with pure wool. The study done at the University of Sydney showed that periods of immobile sleep increased when participants slept on wool mattress toppers. Participants reported feeling better in the morning and having improved sleep quality. (P. R. Dickson, Effect of a fleecy woolen underlay on sleep. The Medical Journal of Australia 140 (1984) pp. 87-89.
Wool mattress pads tend to compress over time. You can reduce compression of the wool batting by placing your wool topper in a large or commercial dryer on air only/air fluff setting, or by flipping and rotating it, or by hanging it outside on a breezy day. Pure wool mattress toppers get compressed more than latex. For pressure relieving comfort some of our customers use them with a layer of 1-2 in. latex.
