Lambs Wool Comforters

Our wool comforters (also called wool duvet inserts) are made from soft 100% cotton fabric and pure lambs wool batting (one piece). The wool filling doesn’t migrate to the edges like feathers do. The wool used for our wool comforters and wool pillows has been tested in a lab and certified by OEKO TEX. It is free of harmful substances. Our wool has also been certified by Woolmark. We use pure wool that is very clean and has no animal odor. You will notice that our prices are as comfortable as our wool comforters. We offer lightweight wool comforters (250 gsm) and all season wool comforters (400 gsm).

Wool comforters can be machine washed but cannot be machine dried (no tumble drying, air dry only). They can also be washed by hand in a bath tub. The comforters can be dried by laying them over a large drying rack, hanging on a shower rod or line drying outside in the sun. They do not need to be washed before using. We encourage customers to buy our inexpensive cotton duvet covers that are much easier to wash and dry than wool comforters.

Down comforters (filled with feathers) or down alternative comforters (filled with polyester) trap body heat and perspiration near your skin. Humans give off about a pint of sweat every night. Wool absorbs the liquid and releases it into the air keeping the sleeper warm and dry. That is why wool apparel is often worn by athletes that sweat a lot during exercise. Wool maintains a drier environment next to the skin.

Down and polyester comforters tend to become more allergenic as they age because they start growing inside mold and dust mites. Mold and dust mites do not like wool comforters because wool does not trap moisture and does not provide humid microclimate necessary for the mold and dust mites to thrive. Wool is considered hypoallergenic fiber.

Wool has great thermal insulating properties. Wool fibers are fluffy and contain tiny air pockets that protect us from cold temperature. Woolmark company states that one kilogram of dry wool can release heat equivalent to an electric blanket running for eight hours. Wool batting is commonly used to insulate houses in Australia and other countries where wool is not as pricey as in the US. Mongolian nomads use wool pads to insulate the floor and walls of their yurts (tents). Minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit (-40°F) (!) is common winter temperature in Mongolia.
